Hospital
Security and Safety Training
Health care institutions experience
the highest level of violence and danger of any type of organization. There is
also the highest standard of care required. During disasters and large scale
emergencies a hospital or related health care organization can be pushed to it’s
limit and be vulnerable. Having a well trained staff is paramount for healthcare
institutions. Below are some of the programs I have successfully taught
hospitals here in the Southwest.
1. Communications Skills
2. Basic and Advanced Physical Control Skills
3. Firearms safety and weapon awareness
4. Basic security officer qualifications
5. Security and Safety briefings for Management.
The daily risk to employees,
patients and visitors in a hospital is high. The purpose of all these programs
is to provide confidence and a sense of well being with employees through
awareness and the ability to act.
For those of you that already have
a training program and not had outside trainers come in and run training, this
program still should be considered. Internal training can become redundant
minimum standard oriented and less effective. If your training program is
effective, having a new of different perspective can reinforce basic principals
to a higher level. Working your training in different ways will have a powerful
operational effect.
Emergency room, EMS and specialized
nursing will benefit from safety and security skills in my programs. EMS
programs are approved for continuing education credits. Most of the above
programs are approved for police continuing education credit.
Again, because of the inherent
dangers of health care work, I would encourage you to consider these training
programs.
