Security Officer Firearms Licensing Program

Handgun Program for Uncertified Officers

Goal: To certify a licensed security officer or potential licensee to New Mexico Bureau of Licensing and security industry standard. Develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes for safe armed employment.

Standard:

1. Must score 70% or better on course of fire twice.
2. Must pass Shoot or Don't Shoot Field Problem Exercise
3. Must pass Awareness Exercise
4. Must pass a written test.
5. Must pass a safe gun handling practical exam.
6. Must demonstrate safe gun handling and tactics.
7. Must be willing to regularly train to maintain shooting skills and tactics.
8.  Must read security officer manual provided in the course.

Equipment Required:

1. Safe Operational Handgun, .38 caliber or larger.
2. 200 rounds of ammunition for practice.
3. 50 rounds of duty grade ammunition for qualification.
4. 3 extra magazines for automatics or 2 speed loaders for revolvers.
5. Eye and ear protection, duty holster with keepers.
6. Uniform must be worn on the day of live fire qualification.

Tuition: $150 Paid in advance two weeks prior to appointment for training, or $175 at the door.

Handgun Program for Re-certifying Officers

Goal: Re-certify currently licensed Security officers for annual licensing requirement. Refresh and emphasize the knowledge, skills and attitudes to ensure safe duty conduct.

Standard: same as above, Uncertified Officer Program.

Equipment: same as above, Uncertified Officer Program.

Tuition: $75 paid two weeks in advance, or $100 at the door. Send to the above address.

Time required: 6 hours.

Shotgun Licensing Program

Goal: This program is designed to train and certify licensed security officers with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to safely use a shotgun in their duties.

Standard:

1. Must pass a written exam.
2. Must pass Shoot or Don't Shoot Field Problem Exercise
3. Must pass Awareness Exercise
4. Must pass a safe gun handling skills practical exam.
5. Must pass a shooting skills test, firing 10 shells for a score of 80% or higher.
6. Must be willing to practice shooting skills and tactics to maintain safe proficiency.

Equipment needed:

1. Safe duty shotgun.
2. 25 Duty grade shotgun shells, either buckshot or slugs.
3. Eye and ear protection.
4. Shotgun carrying case/ for transportation to class and range.

Private Licensing and Training Program

Goal: To provide flexible method of one on one licensing for handgun and shotgun programs. Call for more details on private one on one, small group sessions.

Non -Lethal Use of Force Training - recommended for armed officers
Combative Control Tactics Program

Non- lethal training in subject control is the most practical day to day skills a security officer can have. Communications, physical control and intermediate weapons are priority job related skills. For firearms armed officers they are critical skills ensuring flexible safe response to violence. Please contact us for this certification information.

Citizen Protection and Safety Programs

Self Defense training with firearms through the National Rifle Association is available for a security officer's family at a discount. Crime prevention talks, security surveys and a wide variety of related programs are available in security related subjects for clients.
