NEW MEXICO LICENSE
RENEWAL & REFRESHER FOR CONCEALED HANDGUN

The renewal and refresher courses are great training sessions to improve your skills. At this point in time the state has verbally stated that when you take the courses is your choice. However the paperwork should be turned in no earlier than two months prior to your license expiring. It is highly recommended that you get your renewal or refresher paperwork into the state as soon as possible to facilitate processing.

With our program you have the choice of advanced verses minimum standard level training. From a safety and liability point of view it is better to take advanced training.

Typically people who stay with minimum basic standards loose interest in their safety and participation in the concealed handgun program. The purpose of the program is to help you and give you the edge if a criminal attack occurs. It is important to perfect your skills and attitude.

All the renewal and refresher courses are one day. They cover a good live fire range session and classroom with written exercises to help you review legal and tactical material.

Up to this point in time you should be practicing on a regular basis, at least once a week doing dry firing and once a month shooting 50 rounds live fire. If you have not trained since the basic class you should consider other options than a handgun and a concealed carry license. Chemical agent, pepper spray is a good option. Pepper spray is available for sale from us. The liability in carrying a gun and being proficient is a serious matter. If you don’t practice, you are not safe and IF YOU ARE NOT SAFE DON’T CARRY!

An area of concern is the maintenance of your weapons. Chances are if you haven’t looked at your gun in two years, it may not work. The guns if carried will collect dirt and lint build up. Ammunition may have been exposed to heat or chemicals reducing its effectiveness and reliability. You should replace your ammunition yearly or more frequently with self-defense grade ammunition. Do you daily clean and function check your carry handgun and supporting equipment? If you are not, consider other options for self-defense.

I hope that all my students and people carrying firearms will maintain a high standard to these details.

The advanced training classes are all held at the range. 200 rounds of ammunition is needed for each and the handguns you intend to note on your license. Make sure you bring water and lunch.

The minimum standard course is held in conjunction with the basic concealed handgun course. It is the full second day of the basic course.  For some attending the two-day program is humbling but the review of fundamentals is what makes experts. We forget things. You are encouraged to bring those family members who should come. There is a significant incentive to participate in the firearms training package program.  Check the package program out on the course application.
